“Sherry is an expression of wine and wood as vivid and beautiful as any in the world, a more druggingly delicious wine than you have ever tasted” (Hugh Johnson MW, Jancis Robinson MW, The World Atlas of Wine) Bar Pepito opened its doors in March 2010 across the courtyard from Camino in King’s Cross. It’s an intimate Andalusian bodega specializing in the most exciting styles of sherry, and mixes the best traditions from Jerez with a refreshing up to date approach. We put our heart and soul into the project, with several research trips to this unique and very special part of Spain (as if we needed the excuse). Although at the time sherry was far from cool, we’ve always believed in this brilliant drink and its extraordinary flavours, from the driest wines in the world to the sweetest. In fact, we’ll happily argue that it’s the world’s greatest food-matching wine – try our tasting menu and see! We were thrilled and amazed by the amount of press our opening generated. One of our greatest moments was winning Time Out’s Bar of the Year in 2010, cementing our humble belief that Pepito is one of the best bars in London! Nowadays it’s cool to drink sherry, and we’re immensely proud that we were at the forefront of the ‘sherry revolution’. And when the owners of significant bodegas in Jerez came to visit, they looked around the room, checked the style and materials we used, and declared that were it not for the cloudy skies outside they could well be in Jerez.

P21 Gallery

London, NW1 1JD

The P21 Gallery is an ambitious project in the making, to be an independent London-based non-profit making organisation set up to promote modern Arab art and culture with special focus on Palestine. The gallery is located in architect-designed premises in the heart of London’s Kings Cross, near the British Library. It provides contemporary display spaces and installation areas with facilities to be used for a range of public functions, from presenting art and performance to running workshops and exhibits for training and education. The gallery has a reference library, meeting room, lecture space and a café. In spite of political and logistical difficulties, Arabs in general and Palestinians in particular see their artistic and cultural activities as one of the binding forces that give Arab societies their identity at a time of fragmentation. But an awareness of the quality and variety of Arab art and culture is absent from Western society. The P21 Gallery will provide a showcase for these activities, bringing Arab artists and their work before a British audience. London is the centre of a thriving modern and contemporary art scene and Arab artists can contribute to that scene through work, which is comparable with – and yet different from – the best contemporary artists in the UK.

The settlement began in 1890 as University Hall, located in Gordon Square. Now named the Mary Ward Centre, it is located in Bloomsbury, an area of central London known for its literary and educational heritage. Its original 1898 building at 5 Tavistock Place, just off Tavistock Square, was designed by Arnold Dunbar Smith and Cecil Claude Brewer and is considered to be a masterpiece of late Victorian architecture and is considered to be one of the best Arts and Crafts buildings in London. In a speech to mark the opening of the Settlement in 1898 Mary Ward stated its mission as: “education, social intercourse, and debate of the wider sort, music, books, pictures, travel”. She added: “It is these that make life rich and animated, that ease the burden of it, that stand perpetually between a man and a woman and the darker, coarser temptations of our human road”. According to the Mary Ward House Conference and Exhibition Centre it is a listed Grade 1 building.

Pennies has come to London via the roundabout route of Oxford and Lyme Regis. Its most recent incarnation was at 4 Charlton Place, just off Camden Passage in Islington, where Penny sold vintage china and jewellery, and Oliver sold beautiful vintage clothes. Having closed that shop, we reopened at 41A Amwell Street in the spring of 2011. This pretty street full of Georgian houses and shops will be a fitting final resting place. Please come and see us there! We are open from Tuesday to Saturday, or alternatively you can phone us on 07968201562 to make an appointment.

It all began in Bloomsbury February 2008, and a small team of us opened the doors selling cakes, pastries, and all sorts of sweet and savoury treats for the local area. In what was once a former bank branch back in 1860, our tiny, cozy shabby shop is taken up by our active open plan pastry kitchen, we churn out all the cupcakes, loaf cakes, cookies, brownies, marshmallows, meringues for all of the shops. We are proud to be part of the fabric of the neighbourhood and hope to make our customers' day just a little bit happier. Being a small and intimate space our Bloomsbury location is the perfect setting for small parties such as hen dos, christenings and birthdays. Ever heard of the expression “mi casa su casa “? Well that is exactly how we would describe our venue. We want you to see our lovely space as your living room, decorate it as you want and also listen to the music of your choice. You and your friends can enjoy mountains of scones with clotted cream and jam, lots of different flavour cupcakes, mini treats such as brownies, meringues and marshmallows and just to squeeze something savoury in there our delicious mini baguettes. Moet NV and Prosecco now available by the glass, or as part of the Full or Sweet Afternoon Tea.

chinalife was born in 2007 because we felt that the concept of natural healthy living with herbs and tea had, for far too long, been thrown together with images of perfectly pure people restricting themselves from indulgence. We believe that Tea and Chinese herbs are for everybody no matter if you go to yoga every day or go to the pub! You can incorporate as much or as little into your lifestyle as you wish. Finding out about the effectiveness of tea and Chinese herbs is exciting, empowering and should not be restricted only to strict devotees of natural living. We are dedicated to offering herbal tea, tonics and skincare products that are effective and natural. We also offer everyone free guides (http://chinalifeweb.com/guides/) to help all of our customers understand how they can look and feel amazing using natural solutions. Even more amazing is that proper loose leaf tea is delicious, so being healthy can be very indulgent. Tea drinking is exactly like wine drinking (minus the hangover) with hundreds of different varietals each with their own unique flavours and aromas. We even have a lovely 1930's Shanghai inspired tea bar serving up the finest tea concoctions from pure perfectly brewed teas to freshly prepared unique tea cocktails - take a look at our bar menu (http://chinalifeweb.com/tea-bar/). If you want to take the healthy lifestyle one step further then we are proud to direct you to our big sister - AcuMedic (http://clinic.acumedic.com/). This professional clinical organisation is the oldest, largest and one of the most renowned Chinese Medical clinics outside China. AcuMedic offers safe and effective treatment (Acupuncture, Massage, Chinese Herbs and Cosmetic therapies) for all sorts of conditions by fully qualified Chinese Medical doctors and the clinic is supervised by Western GMC doctors to offer an integrative (not alternative) approach to your health. They offer free health advice (http://clinic.acumedic.com/free-health-advice).
