Homerton Rd
London, United Kingdom E9 5

Hackney Marshes is an area of grassland on the western bank of the River Lea in the London Borough of Hackney. It was incorporated into the Lee Valley Park in 1967. It was originally a true marsh, but was extensively drained from Medieval times, and rubble was dumped here from buildings damaged by air raids during World War II.The principal area of the marsh lies below Lea Bridge Road between the Old River Lea, and the Hackney Cut - an artificial channel of the Lee Navigation, dug about 1770, to avoid a loop in the natural watercourse. The southern extent is marked by the A12; although the industrial land around Hackney Wick Stadium was originally an extension of the marsh, it now forms a part of the Olympic Park for the 2012 Summer Olympics.Hackney Marsh is one of the largest areas of common land in Greater London, with 136.01ha of protected commons.

A socially minded organisation offering exhibition, performance and studio space for the development of creative enterprises. Devoted to the promotion and production of art and design, performance and innovative business, Stour Space also works in collaboration with many local enterprises, residents, artists and committees. Stour Space was once a disused, unsafe building, and through the intuition and motivation of the local community it has blossomed into a multi-functional venue, that can service a large variety of needs: Now boasting over 40 studio tenants, art SHOP, a 2000 sqft open plan gallery space, 20+ local grassroots programmes on site, a multi-purpose function space with Olympic views and a popular café, Stour Space has become a hive for local participation, business development, and niche recreation. The organisation is focused on multi-functionality in order to provide affordable studio and meeting space to creative businesses and self-employed artists/producers, emergent practitioners, designers and entrepreneurs. Stour Space promotes the capacity for the creative sector to be a valuable and important contribution to the modern economy – recognising the weight of skill sharing, collaboration and grass routes initiatives. On-site studios are part subsidised by both corporate and private hire activities, use of the meeting/project space and consultancy, to ensure a large number of people can make use of the previously abandoned building, and affordably grow their own enterprises. Similarly, charitable and educational groups are offered substantial discounts when hiring Stour Space ensuring accessible and equal access for all. Stour Space holds monthly exhibitions (free for local artists), regular markets and workshops, whilst also promoting the positive capacity of the creative sector through ongoing consultancy and lobbying with local government and public development initiatives. Not reliant on government funding, the organisation does not make a financial profit, instead choosing to pour any monies back into improving its services and maintaining the venue. Yet through collaborative use and broad accessibility Stour space is supported and enhanced by a multitude of individuals, businesses and initiatives, ensuring ongoing sustainability and a positive momentum. Sutton House, London

London, United Kingdom E9 6

020 8986 2264

Sutton House is a Grade II*-listed Tudor manor house in Homerton High Street, Hackney, London, England. It is owned by the National Trust.HistoryOriginally known as 'Bryck Place', Sutton House was built in 1535 by Sir Ralph Sadleir, Principal Secretary of State to Henry VIII, and is the oldest residential building in Hackney. It is a rare example of a red brick building from the Tudor period. Sutton House became home to a succession of merchants, sea captains, Huguenot silk-weavers, Victorian schoolmistresses and Edwardian clergy. The frontage was modified in the Georgian period, but the core remains an essentially Tudor building. Oak panelled rooms, including a rare 'linen fold' room, Tudor windows and carved fireplaces survive intact, and an exhibition tells the history of the house and its former occupants. At the turn of the 18th century, Hackney was renowned for its many schools, and Sutton House contained a boys' school, with headmaster Dr Burnet, which was attended in 1818 by the novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton. The building next became Milford House girls' school.

Oak panelled rooms, including a rare 'linen fold' room, Tudor windows and carved fireplaces survive intact, and an exhibition tells the history of the house and its former occupants. The house is the oldest surviving domestic building in Hackney. It is the second oldest in East London, Bromley Hall, a much modified house of the Tudor period, which survives next to the Blackwall Tunnel approach road, being slightly older; it is not open to the public. At the turn of the 18th century, Hackney was renowned for its many schools, and Sutton House contained a boys' school. The name is a mis-attribution to Thomas Sutton, founder of Charterhouse School, who was another notable Hackney resident, in the adjacent Tan House. This was demolished in 1806 to allow for the extension of Sutton Place, a terrace of 16 Georgian Houses (Grade II listed). Sutton House was bought by the National Trust in the 1930s with the proceeds of a bequest. During World War II it was used as a centre for Fire Wardens, who kept watch from the roof. From the 1960s its was rented by the ASTMS Union, led by its charismatic general secretary Clive Jenkins. When the union left in the early 1980s, the house fell into disrepair. In the mid-1980s the building was squatted and used as a music venue and social centre, known as the Blue House (a decorated wall from this time is preserved within the current museum). After the squatters were evicted the building's condition continued to decline. Renovations were completed in 1991. The building is now a museum, has a cafe, an art gallery and a book / gift shop. There is an active schools education programme at the house, together with other community programmes.

Charlie Wright's is named after an East End boxer who owned the place half a century ago. Tucked down a cosy street next door to Hoxton Square, this uncomplicated Shoreditch favourite remains as mixed and welcoming as can be. In terms of food and drink, it lives up to its international billing. Asahi, Früli, Oranjeboom, Leffe (blonde), Guinness are just a few of the taps which line the bar, while behind them sit bottles of Tusker, Black Asahi, Singha and Savanna dry cider. "Wines and cocktails cover the standards, which is more than can be said for the forward-thinking jazz musicians who offer regular entertainment alongside frequent club nights. The food, naturally enough, is Thai, with most mains priced around £6.90." 4/5 "Time Out Review"

We are interested in exploring the borders of curatorial agency and the potential of cultural change through creative collaborations. Regarding the exhibition as an act of communication, we aim to facilitate dialogue as a way of opening up artistic practices to new registers of thought. By focusing on solo shows of young artists as well as a complementary programme of events and performances, our collective motivation is to actively support artists in their individual practice and to provide a deeper knowledge of these practices to the public. These activities also form a part of our commitment towards stimulating public engagement. Until December 2013 Almanac was located on the ground floor of the creative warehouse 'Terrain' in Dalston, and incorporated an exhibition space, project and event areas, publications and a space for critical discussions. ~ In the summer 2014, we founded Almanac Inn, an experimental platform in Turin that aims to facilitate exchange between young international artists, the local audience and curators, institutions and collectors. Established as an extension of Almanac's London-based programme and with the material support of Spazioborgogno, Milan, the platform is conceived as a series of residencies and exhibitions directed by critical research. The project is located at Via degli Artisti 10, in the historical rooms that hosted the cultural association by the same name in the 1990’s. Almanac Inn is run with the collaboration of Virginia Ariu, Sara De Chiara and Davide La Montagna.

From 1963 to 1984 the theatre was used by the Mecca Organisation as a bingo hall.In 1984, Mecca found the building too expensive to maintain as a bingo hall, and it was offered to C.A.S.T, a satirical touring theatre group, headed by Claire and Roland Muldoon, as a London base. They also mounted successful variety nights headlined by a new breed of alternative comedy acts, such as Ben Elton, Dawn French, and Jennifer Saunders.

Hoxton Hall is a community centre and performance space in Hoxton, at 130 Hoxton Street, in the London Borough of Hackney.A grade II* listed building, the theatre was first built as a Music hall in 1863, as MacDonald's Music hall. It is an unrestored example of the saloon-style. In the theatre, an iron-railed, two tier galleried auditorium rises on three sides, supported on cast iron columns, above a small, high, multi-tiered stage. It survives, largely in its original form, as for many years it was used as a Quaker meeting house. The music hall lost its performance licence in 1871, due to complaints by the police; it was sold, and the new owners applied for a licence in 1876, but were again rejected. William Isaac Palmer (1824–1893) purchased it on behalf of the Blue Ribbon Gospel Temperance Mission in 1879. Palmer was an heir to the Huntley and Palmer biscuit family and spent much of his fortune on charity. On Palmer's death, the hall passed to the Bedford Institute, a Quaker organisation dedicated to running adult schools and alleviating the results of poverty.Today, the hall is used as a community centre and performance space, predominantly for youth groups.

(London Research Centre) • the highest percentage of people over 65 with long term illness in London and disproportionately high levels of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity • the second highest proportion in the country (64%) of older people (aged 55-84) living alone. For the past few years we provided 240 exercise opportunities a year, through five weekly sessions run throughout the year. (5 x 48). Plus, a weekly lunch club among the other activities. By providing this service we are giving local people an opportunity to get physically, mentally and socially active enabling them to improve their health and well-being on every level and decrease the risk of stroke and heart disease. However it’s becoming increasingly difficult to continue provide these services due to the shortage of funding for voluntary organisations as ours. Although we generate some income from the shop this is not sufficient to keep the doors open and unless the situation improve we will be forced to close our doors. You can help the elderly retain their dignity and independence by making a donation to our project to improve the quality of life for the socially disadvantaged.

Music Miles is a new fund-raising project designed to galvanise the independent music community into raising money for British children’s charities. The idea is simple: musicians, DJs, singers, MC’s and music industry professionals run one of the world’s major marathons and in the process combine their efforts and resources, both professional and personal to raise money for charity. Running a marathon, be it your first or tenth is a hugely rewarding experience. Raising money for a needy cause in the process makes all the hard work even more worthwhile. In our inaugural year we have chosen to run the Berlin Marathon on September 25th 2011. Berlin is one of the world’s five major marathons with around 40,000 runners taking part each year. Having run it myself I can promise you its an incredible experience and a fairly flat course to boot, making it that little bit easier to manage! The time of year means the weather is nice and mild and the training takes place over the summer. If you have ever thought about running a marathon, even for a split second, then now is the time! If you are interested in running with us this year or supporting the cause then please get in touch.

Fish Club is where our street team get together to be trained in events and marketing and take part in activities that are designed to improve their transferable life-long skills. Once they have received their training they are able to work on our large-scale events and earn money through ticket commission. HOW IT BENEFITS YOUNG PEOPLE: Bigga Fish are in partnership with Vinspired, a national volunteering programme. Any hours that are volunteered by the street team for Bigga Fish are recognised and goes towards their UCAS points for their university applications. As well as this, the young people develop skills that they can carry through to any school, college, university or career. We believe that Bigga Fish is a good opportunity for young people and so does Ms Dynamite. Ms Dynamite (Artist – Mercury, double BRIT and triple MOBO Award Winner) ‘Bigga Fish is a positive, diverse and unique organisation of young people, catering for young people. It gives them the space, support and freedom to express themselves. I have always been honoured to be involved in their events and projects, and I am extremely proud of the young organisers and performers.’
