London, United Kingdom WC1B 3JA

0207 580 0311

The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art is an educational charity committed to supporting original research into the history of British art and architecture of all periods. It is the sister institution to the Yale Center for British Art, with which it collaborates closely, and is part of Yale University. The Centre, based in Bedford Square, London, is a thriving hub of research in its own right. It offers a supportive, professional environment for scholarly work, providing rich library and archival resources to curators, art-trade professionals, independent art historians, academics, researchers and students. It hosts a busy programme of scholarly events, including research seminars and lunches, workshops, symposia and conferences. It generates high-quality research through the scholarly activities and publications of its Director, Deputy-Director, Assistant Director for Research, Senior Research Fellows, and growing community of in-house Postdoctoral Fellows. It also runs the Yale-in-London teaching programme, which provides visiting Yale students with a variety of courses to study, including ones devoted to the history of British art and architecture. Our educational activities will be extended in Autumn 2015 when we will launch a Public Lecture Courses aimed at people interested in learning more about British art, but who may not have had studied art history before. The Centre is also actively engaged in wider realms of scholarly activity and publication. It runs a major grants and fellowships programme that funds high-quality research into the history of British art and architecture. It has a long and continuing history of publishing scholarly monographs and catalogues through the means of Yale University Press. Finally, it is also committed to the most rigorous and creative forms of digital publication: it has recently published its first online catalogue raisonné, and is developing a new scholarly journal entitled British Art Studies, to be launched in November 2015.

Senate House is the administrative centre of the University of London, situated in the heart of Bloomsbury, London between the School of Oriental and African Studies to the east, and the British Museum to the south. The Art Deco building was constructed between 1932 and 1937 as the first phase of a large uncompleted scheme designed for the University by Charles Holden. It consists of 19 floors and is 210ft high.Today the main building contains the University of London's Central Academic Bodies and activities, including the offices of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, the entire collection of the Senate House Library, and eight of the ten research institutes of the School of Advanced Study. During the Second World War, the building's use by the Ministry of Information inspired two noted English writers. Graham Greene's novel The Ministry of Fear (1943) and its film adaptation Ministry of Fear by Fritz Lang (1944) set in Bloomsbury. George Orwell's wife Eileen worked in Senate House for the Censorship Department of the Ministry of Information, and her experiences acted as the description of the Ministry of Truth in Orwell's 1949 novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

The Fashion Retail Academy is a unique, employer led college with charitable status. It was founded in 2005 as a result of Sir Philip Green’s realisation that the industry faced an overwhelming skills gap for entry level jobs. As a result, a private-public partnership was formed between Arcadia, Next, Marks and Spencer, Tesco and Experian who funded its start-up, matched by investment from the Government. Located in the heart of London, the FRA is just moments away from Oxford Street and Tottenham Court road and a number of national rail stations. Our state of the art campus has recently befitted from a £2m upgrade, offering an inspirational learning environment. We offer a wide range of specialist fashion courses, many of these exclusive to the FRA, for students of all ages with start dates throughout the year. Our courses are developed to provide the student with a combination of an in-depth knowledge of Fashion Retail and hands on practical experience of the work environment. Most full-time courses provide a guaranteed work placement with a major high street brand, ensuring graduates leave with a wide range of skills and experience to take them into the workplace. Our success lies in providing the fastest route to work, eliminating the need to go to University and incur large debts whilst giving students vocational experience and support to find a job role on graduation. We work with over 130 brands to provide unrivalled access to industry through master classes, live industry projects, workshops and placements to ensure our graduates meet the current recruitment needs of the industry. Our tutors are dual professionals; a combination of experienced teachers and industry experts, providing the student with the most current information and skills needed to work in the ever changing environment of Fashion Retail. We offer courses suitable for all ages, time-frames, budgets and levels. Full time courses run from one to two years. Our fast track courses are 2 days per week over 22 weeks, and our intensive courses are designed to get you into the workplace in the shortest time possible by learning full-time five days per week for 10 weeks. Short courses are ideal as an entry point or skills top-up and run from one to five days and our apprenticeships provide work based learning. Our success speaks for itself: Over 90% of former FRA students go on to full time employment or further studies, and those choosing to go directly into employment from the FRA start their working life at the same level as university graduates, only many years quicker and without high levels of student debt.

The University of London has five intercollegiate halls of residence available to full time students of the University: - College Hall (Malet Street, WC1); - Connaught Hall (Tavistock Square, WC1); - International Hall (Lansdowne Terrace, WC1); - Lillian Penson Hall (Talbot Square, W2); and - Nutford House (Brown Street, W1). In 2016, the completely rebuilt & refurbished Garden Halls will re-open with more than 1,000 student places in Cartwright Gardens, WC1. All the intercollegiate halls are primarily catered accommodation providing breakfast and dinner seven days a week, although most halls have a small number of self-catering flats and studio options available. In addition to the catered intercollegiate halls, our property management unit provides self-catering accommodation in flats at Clandon House (Finchley, N3). 21 self-catered flats are also available on Gower Street, WC1 for postgraduate students only. To be eligible for a place at an intercollegiate hall, you must be a registered, full-time student at one of the University's Colleges or Institutes. For getting to know people in your own intercollegiate hall, look out for the Facebook group that your Warden will have created just for residents in your hall this year.
