Ta Ta Bella
J. Purdie was never the tallest of fellas,
A sack on his back and a pair of umbrellas,
Named after a song he would sing A capella,
Of a soldier’s farewell “ta ta Bella”
Dancing with jam jar lids stuck to his feet
Round the back court middens of the tenement streets
To recycle the glass of a town which decried
him a washing line thief amongst other cruel lies.
His true legacy’s more than a slagging for those
who are looking untidy in hairstyle or clothes,
He taught us the lesson; the things we dispose of
must be re-loved or re-used, which now everyone knows.

This is the story of the Barrel and Cart. Carol Mackintosh and Bart Gormley met and fell in love in 1965 they married on the 1st of April 1967.
Bart was a head chef and Carol was a head housekeeper. They had three daughters, Caroline, Michelle and Hayley.
Carol and Bart always talked about opening their own restaurant they had a name for it but never quite managed to do it. Financially unlucky throughout life this stopped their dream from happening.
Carol passed away on the 29th March 2009 and Bart passed away on the 2nd of April 2015.
Hayley the chef of the family listened to this story of the "Barrel and Cart" lots of times as she was growing up, as we all did. Through lots of hard work and financial strain,
Hayley has made Carol and Bart's dreams a reality. Hayley's cafe/restaurant opens tomorrow in Paisley and has called it "THE BARREL AND CART" tomorrow is also a very significant day as it would have been our dads 74th birthday.
"Tapas have been a traditional way of life in Spain and their influence has gradually spread throughout the world. A tapa was originally a small sized plate or a bowl containing few nuts, olives often with a chunk of cheese or ham. It is best served along with wine, beer or sherry in between meals and also serves as an appetizer.
Today, with the subsequent influence from Moor, Berber and Europe, the range of ingredients has become more varied and Tapas have evolved into an exotic, versatile and a popular way to enjoy a meal.
Tapas are ideal to be shared amongst friends and selected dishes can be consumed all through the main course. For the uninitiated, we recommend that two to three tapas per person should be ideal for the main meal.
We provide fresh food, daily sourced from premier local suppliers at realistic prices."
