The World's End Market
Restaurant & Bar
495 King’s Road London SW10 0LR

Following the success of The Crystal Palace Market, which opened last spring, founders of the The Markets Group, opened their second venture on the King’s Road late December 2014. The head chef of the group is Bubker Belkhit, who is also the Executive Chef of acclaimed contemporary Japanese restaurant group Sumosan.
The World’s End Market is located in the iconic building which formerly housed the World’s End pub, originally a tavern during the times of Charles II from which the area gained its name.
The concept is simple: offering only the very best “market fresh” produce for all day dining, supporting, wherever possible, local suppliers. Clients are encouraged to choose from the resplendent fish and meat selection, much of the produce coming from their sister restaurant’s own Butcher’s, Fishmonger’s and Grocery Shop. Their meal is then grilled/seared, which the founders believe is the optimum way of enhancing the natural flavours and preserving the nutrients of the ingredients.
Every main course comes automatically with a House salad and French fries. The salad is provided exclusively by Commonwork Farm in Kent, which is all hand picked by vulnerable young people as part of a course offering therapeutic and vocational programmes for those less advantaged. All of the food is seasonal, with the menu changing daily to reflect this philosophy.
The ground floor of the World’s End Market houses a 70 cover restaurant, stripped back and uncomplicated in design; Reclaimed wooden crates have been re worked to create the woodwork on the walls and bar. Continuing the theme of reclaimed materials even some of the Harry Potter Hogwarts set, predominantly and impressive doorframe, has been incorporated into the design. This Grade 2 listed building took over 20 months to restore. Flooded with natural light, this high ceilinged dining area is evocative of a 1930s canteen.
As a nod to its ‘market’ inspiration, adjacent to the open kitchen there is a resplendent fresh fish display and an impressive meat selection housed in a fridge made entirely of glass.
The World’s End Market also houses a subterranean cocktail bar of 80-covers with a 1.00am license and occasional DJ. In selected areas of the building Ninth Seal famed street artist has also created exclusive artworks.
Renato D’Aiello, top Italian saxophonist who can often be found playing the later late show at Ronnie Scott’s with his fiery quartet, will programme several nights of live jazz on a weekly basis from the Spring.
Opening early summer, the first floor will boast a cosy area, ideal as an additional bar or a private dining area. Here famed photographer Lorenzo Agius (Trainspotting) will display photographs of iconic British actors and of course Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood who ran their boutique ‘Let it Rock’ in the vicinity, which, in 1980 was renamed World’s End.
During the day from 10am till 3pm, and 1pm at weekends, you can sample the “All day dining menu” which offers classic brunch options including Eggs Benedict, Royale or Florentine or the Traditional English Breakfast with all the trimmings, quirkily served with “Royal Airforce Breakfast Tea or Coffee”.
The impressive burger section (which has gained an excellent following in Crystal Palace) offers handmade by their own butchers minced Beef from Guilford and a choice of toppings including Classic, Hot (caramelised onion, shallots, hot chilli paste and home-made mayonnaise), Blue Cheese or the Luxurious Truffle Burger and unique Crayfish Roll Burger. For veggies there is a burger created from Portobello and shitake mushrooms and caramelised onions topped with Halloumi cheese.
Those seeking the true “market experience” at lunch or dinner can order from the daily changing menu. Starters might include a variety of raw fish such as Colchester Rock Oysters, Brixham Monkfish, Hampshire Rainbow Trout or vegetarian dishes such as white asparagus, shitake mushrooms and poached egg and Parmesan.
The concept however ignites when you choose from the resplendent freshly caught fish on display for the main courses, including Brixham Cuttlefish or Plaice, Scottish Langoustine and Monk fish, Skate Wings from Bidford Bay and whole Wild Sea bass from Anglesey. For Carnivores try a British T bone, Rib eye or Sirloin steak. All the main courses are served with French Fries and a house salad.
The carefully selected wine list balances well loved Old World and New World choices with a couple of British offerings from the respected Chapel Down vineyard in Kent.
Run by convivial General Manager Stuart Oldershaw, with over 20 years experience within the industry, the World’s End Market will offer a welcome quirky, multi-faceted venue to the area which was once frequented by cool creatives and punks alike during the 1960’s & 70’s London.

Battersea Bridge is a five-span arch bridge with cast-iron girders and granite piers crossing the River Thames in London, England. It is situated on a sharp bend in the river, and links Battersea south of the river with Chelsea to the north. The bridge replaced a ferry service that had operated near the site since at least the middle of the 16th century. The first Battersea Bridge was a toll bridge commissioned by John, Earl Spencer, who had recently acquired the rights to operate the ferry. Although a stone bridge was planned, difficulties in raising investment meant that a cheaper wooden bridge was built instead. Designed by Henry Holland, it was initially opened to pedestrians in November 1771, and to vehicle traffic in 1772. The bridge was poorly designed and dangerous both to its users and to passing shipping, and boats often collided with it. To reduce the dangers to shipping, two piers were removed and the sections of the bridge above them were strengthened with iron girders.Although dangerous and unpopular, the bridge was the last surviving wooden bridge on the Thames in London, and was the subject of paintings by many significant artists such as J. M. W. Turner, John Sell Cotman and James McNeill Whistler, including Whistler's Nocturne: Blue and Gold – Old Battersea Bridge, and his controversial Nocturne in Black and Gold – The Falling Rocket.
