"Let’s stop acting like women who choose to be feminine are somehow colluders, betraying the movement, bamboozled into thinking that they want to be feminine. Let’s stop denying women their own autonomy by telling them that their expressions of femininity are bad and wrong.
Antifemininity is misogynist. What you are saying when you engage in this type of rhetoric is that you think things traditionally associated with women are wrong. Which is misogynist. By telling feminine women that they don’t belong in the feminist movement, you are reinforcing the idea that to be feminine and a woman is wrong, that women who want to be taken seriously need to be more masculine, because most people view gender presentation in binary ways. This rewards the ‘one of the boys’ type rhetoric I encounter all over the place from self-avowed feminists who seem to think that bashing on women is a good way to prove how serious they are when it comes to caring about women and bringing men into the feminist movement.”
- Get Your Anti-Femininity Out Of My Feminism, S.E. Smit
Proud Cabaret Brighton. Modelled on a 1920's Speakeasy Club, the venue offers fine dining and entertainment in a beautiful listed building, with a hand painted dome ceiling reminiscent of the illicit glamour of a bygone era.
Volk's Electric Railway is a narrow gauge heritage railway that runs along a length of the seafront of the English seaside resort of Brighton. It was built by Magnus Volk, the first section being completed in August 1883, and is the oldest operating electric railway in the world. Although it was preceded by Werner von Siemens's 1879 demonstration line in Berlin and by the Gross-Lichterfelde Tramway of 1881, neither line is still operational.Operated as a historical seafront tourist attraction, the railway does not usually run during the winter months, and its service is also liable to occasional suspension due to severe weather or maintenance issues.HistoryIn 1883 Magnus Volk opened a short, electric railway running for 1/4mi between Swimming Arch and Chain Pier. Electrical power at 50 V DC was supplied to the small car using the two running rails. In 1884 the line was extended a further 1/2mile beyond the Chain Pier to Paston Place, and regauged to. The electrical supply was increased to 160 V DC and the power plant was installed in the arch built into the cliff face at Paston Place. In 1886 an off-set third rail was added to minimise current leakage.

JOIN US we're ALL FRIENDS!
First and foremost Don't Tell Mama is a social club. A friendly den to meet your mates and make new ones without the need of a mobile phone.
D.T.M. was launched in March 2016 and now counts over 600 Members.
You could easily walk past the door of this Kemptown village speakeasy every day and never know it was there, and that's just how the members like it. The house doesn’t like noise, it doesn’t like rowdy, it doesn’t like poseurs.
Officially it is a Bi & Gay men only members’ bar apart from Sundays when the bar is open to all, and so discreet that the only outward evidence of its existence is the blue light at night and a tiny sign next to a buzzer on St Georges Road.
But D.T.M. virgins and non members can come too as our guest on their first visit.
We do like to be beside the seaside!
Located right on the seafront, we love the sea views and hustle & bustle of Brighton town. We host an extremely popular 'Open Mic.' evening on Bi-weekly Thursdays and are looking to increase our musical events in the near future.
We play an eccentric collection of music ranging from sixties crooning during the day and into folk, prog and jazz in the evenings.
We also have crisps.
It's good fun and our beer is superb. See you there.

We'd like to invite you all to come and try out our lovely gardens which catch the sun throughout the day. For those chillier times we have covered and heated cubby holes, so you can still enjoy the outside in comfort.
Keep yourselves entertained with our old school N64 and SNES games consoles, 4-player Mario Kart is usually on, but we have a large selection of other games available as well as a good selection of board games.
Not forgetting our selection of quality local real ales and cider. I could go on and on about the place but why don't you just swing by and check it out for yourself?!
