''In London we Australians stepped away from the traditional "Hotels" with their "Ideal Location", tiny stairs, modular showers, piddling water pressure and sterile "Dining" areas, to a real hotel, for five nights:
Found Rafayel On The Left Bank at Battersea, on Thames on TA:
Buy an "Oyster" card, catch the 170 bus at Victoria, minutes later, after little tour of Chelsea, alight at London Heliport and you're at the hotel door !!
(If bus-shy, tube to Clapham Common and phone ahead for hotel courtesy car).
Super clean High Tec building, great genuinely friendly staff, BIG rooms, huge beds, real bathrooms, air con which works, showers equivalent to standing under Niagra Falls, 50% off two+ course meals at the restaurant on the Thames. (Any closer and you'd be on a Thames barge !!) And, the lobby cafe is one of the few places in London serving REAL coffee equivalent to Melbourne's best.
Choose river plus sunsets, +/- helicopters, or Eastern view room !!''

Battersea Park is a 200 acre green space at Battersea in the London Borough of Wandsworth in London. It is situated on the south bank of the River Thames opposite Chelsea, and was opened in 1858.The park occupies marshland reclaimed from the Thames and land formerly used for market gardens.HistoryPrior to 1846 the area now covered by the park was known as Battersea fields, a popular spot for duelling. On 21 March 1829, the Duke of Wellington and the Earl of Winchilsea met on Battersea fields to settle a matter of honour. When it came time to fire, the Duke aimed his duelling pistol wide and Winchilsea fired his into the air. Winchilsea later wrote the Duke a groveling apology.Separated from the river by a narrow raised causeway, the fields consisted of low, fertile marshes intersected by streams and ditches with the chief crops being carrots, melons, lavender (all the way up to Lavender Hill) and the famous ‘Battersea Bunches’ of asparagus.Running along the riverside from the fields were industrial concerns and wharves, including a pottery, copper works, lime kiln, chemical works, and, increasingly, railways. The site of Battersea Power Station was partly occupied by the famously bawdy Red House Tavern, patronised by Charles Dickens. Access was via the rickety wooden Battersea Bridge or by ferry from the Chelsea bank.

No.4 Hamilton Place is as much about exceptional details as it is about an exceptional location. Not only is the building itself listed the bow windows and the baroque staircase are too, though those features are stunning, there is arguably even more delight in the very fine Edwardian details – from the door handles, Louis XVI gilt cornicing and chandeliers, right down to the magnificent window latches.
No.4 Hamilton Place may have an air of old luxury, but as far as service, comfort and technology are concerned, our guests demand the highest standards and services.
