My aim is to expand my knowledge through painting, drawing, visiting galleries, working guest spots and travelling.
PAPER is an artist-led, commercial gallery based in Manchester and represents a range of emerging and mid-career artists whose practice is based around the medium of paper. The work ranges from drawing, painting, printmaking, artist's books, video, and performance.
The gallery opened in August 2012 and has a regular programme of exhibitions, presenting the work of gallery artists as well as providing a platform for outside curatorial projects. In 2013 PAPER instigated an Artist-in-Residence programme, Exploring PAPER, and in 2015 a mentoring scheme for artists based in the North-West of England, funded by Arts Council England. PAPER is Co-directed by artists Andrea Cotton, David Hancock, Simon Woolham, and Rachel Wrigley.

Studio Central is a new artists studio in Manchester. A short walk from Deansgate and Spinningfields, on the corner of Bridge St and Chapel St and next to Salford Central station. Housed within a character building will tall ceilings and windows, all rooms have an en suite bathroom which has the potential to be used as a dark room. This an opportunity to be a part of a newly emerging community of artists which is under the same ownership and management as the successful Mirabel Studios near Victoria Station, home of PAPER and PS Mirabel.
Redeye is a UK-based photography network with a broad membership, many of whom are full or part-time photographers, artists and other creatives. Based in Manchester, it works with a large number of partner organisations such as galleries, universities and other photographic and arts organisations across the country to deliver its events, training and development.
With funding support from Arts Council England, Redeye organises various events every year, including talks each year by established photographers and workshops running at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Regular portfolio critique and advice sessions are held with curators, picture editors and experienced photographers.
As a Community Benefit Society and non-profit organisation, Redeye particularly welcomes and encourages photography enthusiasts to get involved, volunteering at events and suggesting new ideas. Redeye looks continually at what is happening in the practice of photography and about what can be done to keep it healthy, delivering activities to achieve that.

Weekend Footstool/ Dressing Table Stool Course - £155/ £165
Our weekend taster session in modern upholstery is designed as an introduction to the craft. During the course you will upholster a small footstool or dressing table stool, learning about the tools and materials used as well as basic techniques. The course runs from 11.30am to 4.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday. We keep the class size small with a maximum of 6 people to ensure that you get the most out of it. The course includes everything necessary to complete the project apart from fabric so all you need to bring is 1 metre of your chosen fabric. At the end of the two days you will be able to take your footstool home to show off your new found skills. Keep it and admire your handiwork or, alternatively you could always sell it to pay for your course!
6 week Evening Class £170.00
Our 6 week evening classes comprise six, three hour sessions. The course is project based, which means you will select your own pieces for re-upholstery and we will teach you all you need to know to upholster your particular project. Class sizes are kept small so that we can help you structure your learning experience around your project and will work with you in advance of the course to pointing you in the direction of the right project. We know people work at different speeds, but you should be able to get a armchair completed 6 weeks.
We run these classes throughout the year on either a Tuesday or Thursday evening between 6.30pm - 9.30pm, Each three hour session works on flexi time and so is designed to work on a drop-in basis. So, if you don't get home till 6.30pm, or need to be home by 9pm, don’t worry as you're never late or made to feel that you’re skipping off early; and you’re always more than welcome to take five and grab a cuppa!
This course is suitable for beginners and those who have already done some upholstery before.
3 day Class £240.00
3 day intensive course, project based, but with small class sizes and suited to your needs. We run these throughout year, starting in April and continuing through summer. This course is three days of intensive but lighthearted tuition in modern upholstery. Like the evening classes, it is project based, so you will learn what you need to know to upholster your own particular project and we can help you structure your learning experience by pointing you in the direction of the right project or projects. We know people work at different speeds, but you should be able to get a small armchair completed within the three days. Because of the flexibility of this course, it is suitable for beginners and those who have already done some upholstery before. Classes will start from 9.30am and finish at 4.30pm with up to a hour off for lunch, or take only 30 mins and crack on.

All our courses are project-based with small class sizes of a maximum of 6 people. They are designed to teach you the skills you require to embark on your own projects whilst retaining the flexibility to be tailored to suit your own individual needs. We can help you structure your learning experience by pointing you in the direction of the right project to bring or alternatively, if you do not have a project then you can purchase a frame from us.
This course is aimed at those who want to learn the comprehensive skills required to be able to tackle a range of complex upholstery projects. Ideal for business start ups, this course will enable students to build up a photographic and video portfolio of their work, which will document the techniques used and skills gained. This record will provide an invaluable reference tool to enable students to go on to independent work. Students will be encouraged to bring their own projects, which can be discussed and decided upon together with advice from us. Techniques and skills covered in this course will include: buttoning, deep buttoning, studding, sprung seats, sewing, webbing, cutting, measuring fabric, use of machinery and business and workshop set up advice.
This course will be available to book in weekly slots for your convenience. The hours are 9.30-4.30 Monday to Friday
