85 Caledonian Road
London, N1 9

King's Cross is London's most fascinating neighbourhood - loosely defined by the area around the station to the north for about a mile, south, east and west about half a mile. Covered by the boroughs of Camden and Islington. Happy to give local businesses, organisations and causes a chance to promote themselves, but please consider the audience and don't post more than one self-promotional thing per week. Please be nice in the comments - it's possible to get across even controversial views politely. Several people write here in the guise of 'King's Cross', watch out for initials at the end of posts to identify who's written what.

Kings Cross ThamesLink Railway Station,

King's Cross Thameslink station is a closed railway station in central London, England, which served the Thameslink route. It was replaced by new Thameslink platforms at St Pancras in December 2007. The last operator of the station was First Capital Connect. The site is on Pentonville Road, about 160yd from King's Cross station. The station occupied part of the original site of the Metropolitan Railway's 1863 King's Cross station. Its original street buildings were a little further west than the later station frontage and, though in poor repair, may still be seen. The Thameslink platforms on the City Widened Lines were separated only by a newer wall from the site of the Underground platforms, which may still be seen on the west side from Underground trains travelling between King's Cross St. Pancras and Farringdon stations. The two platforms at King's Cross Thameslink were lettered rather than numbered, to avoid confusion with the platforms at nearby King's Cross among staff who worked at both stations, which may have been regarded as part of the same station complex. A similar situation exists at Waterloo East station, an annexe of London Waterloo, and the use of platform letters has been continued on the new Thameslink platforms at St Pancras.

Claire Leona and Maeve met at LFS, vying for positions by day and bonding in the Two Brewers by night, both with a single ambition : to make films. and not just any films but ones that are artisticly told, beautifully shot and with enticing narratives that are hard to forget. In april 2007, after realising the benefits of ‘ltd’ to assist with locking down interviews within the UN (long story) they formed Dog Eared Films, recruiting Alexandra and kick-starting the whole adventure with a music video for a friend. He gave them a handful of five pound notes and a brilliant song. They hired an abandoned studio under a railway bridge from some models shooting a topless western and arrived with wallpaper and paint. Utilising their artistic backgrounds they learnt valuable lessons: that corners can be made of cardboard, locations could be ‘bought’ with biscuits, charm is currency, actors having a seemingly endless fondness for Claire, anything can be lit to cheat by a cinematographer that quickly gained the prefix “the”, and- when in doubt- (Alexandra yells..) paint it black. Since then we’ve come a long way: shooting documentaries in Asia, corporates in suits and art commissions on super 8. Alexandra skipped into production with all the force her six foot stature enabled, ‘The Maeve’ built a mighty show reel with connections dotting the globe and Claire keeps writing these award winning scripts. We have been commissioned by Arts Council England, the Commonwealth Vision Awards and some very talented musicians, to name a few. The set up has changed- the studio is now our own (which fortunately allows a much greater scale of production, but unfortunately means less topless models), corners come easy, and we do now pay locations- but the mantra’s the same: take a good script and then beg, borrow and steal what’s needed. When it comes to storytelling- use your heart and imagination because nothing is impossible for the ladies of dog eared films!
