Starting out above a strip club, in 1982 they moved to Leicester Square at a premises they were able to take over formally in 1985.The club was the focus of the "alternative comedy" boom in the early 1980s and helped start the careers of many comedians, including Paul Merton, French & Saunders, Alexei Sayle, Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson, Ben Elton, Mark Thomas, Andrew Bailey, Pat Condell and John Sparkes. In October 1985, an improvisational group called The Comedy Store Players was formed, consisting of Mike Myers, Neil Mullarkey, Kit Hollerbach, Dave Cohen and Paul Merton. The group has had several lineup changes over the years, and now features a rotating team of Neil Mullarkey, Paul Merton, Josie Lawrence, Richard Vranch (a comedy improviser who also plays piano), Jim Sweeney, Lee Simpson and Andy Smart, together with frequent guest appearances. Several of The Comedy Store Players appeared on the BBC Radio 4 and Channel 4 comedy game show Whose Line Is It Anyway?.

The essential role of comedy in this world is to point out that life makes no sense. The plaudits that The London Comedy Club has been consistently getting signify that they have been doing a great job. Founded more than 20 years ago, this famous comedy club in London has the most opulent venue for comedy, the Kingsway Hall Hotel near Covent Garden in the West End of London. As a huge bonus, The London Comedy Club has all show tickets currently better than half-price. The special promo price is a fantastic discount of over 50% and is offered for visitors who avail of tickets before the end of the current month. This is really nifty for groups that want the best in entertainment when they come and visit London. What’s even more exciting is how every ticket also gives people free access afterwards to four different night clubs. That’s simply hard to beat, considering how The London Comedy Club has been praised countless times in the media for being “Razor Sharp” – BBC, “Funny” - The Mirror and "The funniest show" ***** - The Guardian. The Sun has even lauded the club for how it “Raised the roof”.
Highly rated and eagerly watched, The London Comedy Club has always had at least one headline act on, with two on most nights and sometimes three on the busiest nights. Thriving on out-and-out humor that dares to poke fun at life in general, the famous comedy club in London has been rated and recommended by visitors for being: “hilarious”- jessejamessmith of Oshawa, Canada; “Great value for £8.00”-martin7176 of Waterford, Ireland; and “Very fun, entertaining and a naughty show”-TBirdieFI of Finland.
THE PHOENIX Pub & Venue is two minutes walk from Oxford Circus tube; in a rather evil looking building, on the corner of beautiful Cavendish Square. A bustly boozer & basment event space.
We serve Ruby Jean's Diner from our kitchen, all day every day - and have one of the best drinks ranges in Central London - with over 25 Speciality Craft Beers, Lagers, Ciders and Real Ales - and an extensive wines and spirits portfolio.

"Nothing more tedious than someone banging on about how the circuit is shit these days and how everything was better in the 80s. Au contraire, there's plenty of invention, variety and verve, not least from the Weirdos collective of comics, which includes Ben Target, Adam Larter, Karl Schultz and John Kearns and which onlydeals in nights of barely concealed chaos. They're endlessly creative, fun and take risks. Great things surely lie ahead for one or some of this lot." LondonisFunny.com 2012

In the year 1911, the opulent Victoria Palace Theatre was designed by Frank Matcham as a music hall for Alfred Butt. Earlier, it was Butt who purchased the Royal Standard Music Hall. He demolished the Royal Standard Music Hall but retained the gold mosaic and white Sicilian marble pillars. They also retained the exterior faade, canopy and cupola and had a huge occupancy of 1550.
Opened in September 2012, St. James Theatre is a unique, award winning arts complex in central London. With a 312 seat main house presenting plays, musicals and revues, and a 120 capacity Studio in cabaret style offering over 250 shows a year, the St. James has established itself as the vibrant cultural hub of the rapidly developing Victoria area and a major player on the wider cultural scene.
A theatre of choice for the best regional transfers, the perfect space for mid-scale musicals and musical revues, or the first stop for ambitious productions with designs on the West End, we stage shows that excite us, that marry great writing with visionary artists and that will appeal to theatregoers of all ages.
A commercial enterprise without subsidy, we produce, co-produce and receive shows alike. In our first 18 months we have had two West End transfers (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tell Me on a Sunday; Urinetown: The Musical), two Olivier Award nominations (Cinderella, Tell Me on a Sunday), six What’s On Stage Award nominations and an Offie award nomination. Productions have been helmed by such renowned directors as, Sir Trevor Nunn, Max Stafford Clark, Sir Jonathan Miller, John Caird, Jamie Lloyd, David Grindley, Tamara Harvey and Blanche MacIntyre.
The artistic programme is of course at the heart of establishing a new theatre, but so too is the audience experience and here the St. James excels. We try to deliver a balance of new and interesting work, plays and musicals that are both thought-provoking and entertaining.
Enjoying the character and intimacy of a cabaret space, the versatility of a theatre, with the acoustics of a concert hall, the St. James Studio has also established itself. With a judiciously curated programme of cabaret, jazz, comedy, musicals, and theatre, often in the same week, the Studio is now widely, recognised as a champion of new musical writing, new cabaret, lunchtime theatre and political comedy.
Finally, as a 21st century arts venue, the St. James incorporates TV production/broadcast facilities and multimedia capability. Coupled with the first class bar and catering facilities and in an atmosphere of designer comfort, the St. James is also the ideal environment for AGM’s, conferences, book and product launches, showcases, workshops and whole range of corporate and creative interaction.
The St. James is run by a team dedicated to making the theatre one of the best experiences in London. Please visit us soon and enjoy all that the St. James has to offer.

London Irish Art endeavours to explore the personal understanding and the experience of the Irish diaspora living in the U.K., specifically in relation to culture, identity and creativity. A dynamic programme of art, poetry and music, will inform this exciting investigation. A vast array of media will be explored, ranging from the more traditional forms of painting, photography, mixed media and sculpture to the more contemporary means of expression such as video work, installation and stop-motion animation.
As London holds the largest Irish diaspora in the world, this exhibition endeavours to represent an on-going dialogue between these two countries. Striving to build ties and cultural relations with the Irish art scene in the U.K., this event is organised to provide artists with cross border exposure.
Gallery 223 has been established to represent artists who deserve the stage, in a venue we know you will find unique and rewarding. As you will discover, it may be the antithesis of the white wall contemporary gallery but the art itself comes alive in this exceptional space.
We want to retain a balance between those with a passion for collecting art and those with a genuine interest in following the arts. As such, the gallery will run by appointment throughout the week, and strictly by very limited invitation only, to events and exhibitions. Please don’t let this deter you from contacting us as we will ensure that everyone who wants to be involved will be.
Beyond the Gallery we will bring cultural experiences to Gallery 223 through regular exhibitions, events and an Arts Club.
Gallery 223 has been created by local businessman, Dennis Geary who has opened several art ventures in the area and contemporary british artist Tom Leamon. Art advisor Sonia Chamberlain brings many years experience to the Gallery.
We look forward to welcoming you to Gallery 223.
