The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is the body responsible for the leadership and support of the pharmacy profession within England, Scotland and Wales. It was created along with the General Pharmaceutical Council in September 2010 when the previous Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain was split so that representative and regulatory functions of the pharmacy profession could be separated. Although membership of the Society is not a prerequisite for engaging in practice as a pharmacist within the United Kingdom, most practising pharmacists opt to join the Society because of the benefits offered by membership. Its predecessor the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain was founded on 15 April 1841.MembershipThe Society currently offers five categories of membership: Member Full membership is available to anyone who has ever been registered as a pharmacist in Great Britain, whether or not currently registered with the GPhC. Fellow Fellowship may be conferred by the Society’s Panel of Fellows on pharmacists who have been members of the Society for at least 12 years and who have been deemed to have made outstanding original contributions to the advancement of pharmaceutical knowledge or to have attained distinction in the science, practice, profession or history of pharmacy. Associate Associate membership is open to two categories of person: (a) those registered elsewhere in the world who have never been registered in Britain; (b) those who have a recognised degree in pharmacy but have not yet registered as a pharmacist in Britain, either because they are still undergoing their preregistration training or because they are not working in a field of practice that requires registration with the GPhC. Student Student membership is available to anyone studying for a degree in pharmacy at any institute recognised by the Society (in Britain or overseas). Pharmaceutical Scientist Pharmacist scientist membership is available to anyone with a degree (or equivalent) in a subject related to pharmacy who has worked for at least two years in a recognised area of the pharmaceutical sciences.

My name is Kevin Phillips and for the last 12 years I have been fortunate to be involved with my wife Sheila in building her business, London Fossils and Crystals. On this amazing journey, I have met and learned from some incredible people. I have come to realise that out modern frenetic lives have managed to shut out some of the things which in times gone by would have enriched the lives of all who shared in them. Incidents in my own life have proved and continue to prove the power and generosity contained within crystals and the ability they have to enhance and complement our modern lifestyle. Please join with me on this incredible journey of discovery, if not for the whole journey then please share a few steps with me. Kevin, January 2014

Our Head Office and Clinic is still located in the same building, providing more than 30 years of continuous service to the public. Since 1982, the weight loss clinic group has expanded into other areas which can be found on our web-site. I have been practising yoga seriously since 1992. I explored a number of different styles of yoga but when I discovered the Scaravelli Inspired approach I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Vanda Scaravelli was an Italian teacher, trained by Iyengar, who went on to develop her own unique approach to yoga that seeks to undo tension in the body and free the spine. The basic premise is that when tensions leave, the body goes back to its original state, a state the body’s natural intelligence recognises and welcomes. However, as Vanda points out this ‘relaxed’ state: “ is not a state of passivity but on the contrary of alert watchfulness. It is perhaps the most active of our attitudes going ‘with’ and not ‘against’ our body and feelings….we have been trained to struggle to achieve. Now we have to work in the opposite direction, by letting go, giving place to action (if we can call it action) an ‘undoing’ action. “ In the classes we work gently to release muscles and untangle joints and so invite parts of the body that are seldom used to awaken and connect. Vanda’s approach involves attuning ourselves to the sense of gravity, allowing the breath to arrive and leave without restriction and bringing the spine alive. There are no routines, no set sequences in this yoga. Postures are rarely approached in the same way twice so that the practice is always fresh, not dulled by habit, and responsive to the present moment. It's definitely NOT about distorting your limbs into contorted positions and it’s more about exploring, discovery and invitation than imposing and instructing. There is never any forcing, or stretching. Vanda said “Elongation and extension can only occur when the pulling and pushing ends.” Vanda believed “yoga should not be a training for body control; on the contrary it must bring freedom to the body.” She said “yoga will be accepted by the body when it is done without resistance.” In her book “Awakening the Spine” she writes about experiencing “waves” in the postures, movement as “the song of the body” and the “delight of the body’s unfolding.” In the classes I show students how to prepare for and work in the postures – creating the conditions for the yoga to occur in each individual’s body. It sounds mysterious but it’s actually very simple. We work in an unhurried way, sometimes playfully, not worrying what the pose looks like. Students are encouraged to comment on their experience in the postures and articulate what it feels like for them. This approach to yoga seeks to involve the whole body in the pose and a lot of time is spent making sure parts of the body are not locked off so that connections and openings are made throughout the whole body. It leads to a wonderful lightness and sense of freedom in the body, heart and mind. It’s gentle and subtle but also deep and intense. It feels fabulous, it’s creative and beautiful and fun and is a form of yoga suitable for anyone – the fit or not so fit, young or old, stiff or flexible. For both beginners and experienced practitioners there is much to explore in this approach to yoga. Once you’ve tried it your body will tell you it wants to do more! I trained with Sophy Hoare and John Stirk, two of the leading exponents of the Scaravelli approach in the UK and I regularly visit Diane Long who trained with Vanda for 23 years and has endorsed me as a teacher in this approach to Yoga.
