One of London’s must-visit pubs, The Red Lion delivers a delightfully diverse experience across three grand floors. The Cellar Bar captures the ambience of a Pall Mall private club, while the dining room and main bar echo the glorious grandeur of a Victorian Gin Palace.
There has been a pub on the site of The Red Lion since 1434, serving every British Prime Minister up to Edward Heath - when modern pressures put a stop to them "popping to their local". There's been many an influential decision made here.
Pretty much an institution in these parts - and it's stayed pretty much the same for years - this pub is actually quite a large hole in a wall, being situated in railway arches in front of Waterloo Station and has been a watering hole of choice for commuters for many a year. Never a place one would ever describe as spic and span (picture your favourite grotty boozer), and with conversation drowned out by the trains rumbling over head every few minutes, the appeal of the place is not easy to identify. But when you consider it's proximity to the station and the excellent range of beers on the hand pumps, the penny drops. Not a great place for a romantic tte--tte, but a handy one to put right the evils of another day in the office or kill time while waiting for that train.

Like most buildings in London, Walkers of Whitehall didn't start it's life as a licensed premises. Built in 1694, it was originally an Irish bank, with cashiers upstairs and the offices and vaults below.
It's taken on several transformations since then and when Morton-Scott Bar & Restaurant Company Ltd acquired the business in 2004, it underwent yet another change.
Now a family owned etablishment, we pride ourselves on our service and quality, as well as the comfort of our customers.
