CHELSEA space is a public exhibiting space where invited art and design professionals are encouraged to work on experimental curatorial projects that may not otherwise be realised. The programme is international and interdisciplinary covering art, design and popular culture. The emphasis is on curatorial experimentation, the exposure of process and ideas, and re-readings of artworks and archives and their re-presentation for contemporary audiences. CHELSEA space is a platform for discussion and questions rather than definitive answers. The ethos at CHELSEA space is welcoming - a meeting place where informal social networks can develop. CHELSEA space is sited on the Millbank campus of Chelsea College of Arts, next to Tate Britain, and provides extra-curricular interest for the school and open access to the widest possible audiences. 2014 will see the introduction of the Exhibition Studio Workshop into CHELSEA space, which will show a changing selection of works and objects from the CHELSEA space, Chelsea College of Arts Library and Special Collections, in addition to the established exhibition programme. The Exhibition Studio Workshop is the practice-based strand of the new MA Curating and Collections postgraduate taught course which will give students the opportunity to work within the professional gallery environment. This unique workshop will engage students in live curatorial practice within a renowned public space.

Toccata Classics/Toccata Press

At Toccata Classics we aim to bring you fresh Classical music as it has never been heard before. We are dedicated to producing top-notch classical music - ALL our albums you can find first and original recordings that you can’t find anywhere else. Next year we will be celebrating out 10th anniversary and now have almost 200 in the catalogue with many more in the pipeline! Currently we have recordings of music by Alkan, Alnæs, Ashton, Busch, Eller, Ernst, Farwell, Glanville-Hicks, Lyatoshynsky, David Matthews, Oppel, Ornstein, Peyko, Pickard, Rameau, Ramey, Reicha, Röntgen, Sekles, Shebalin, Shostakovich, Süda, Tartini, Alexander and Nikolai Tcherepnin, Telemann, Weinberg, Woyrsch and many more. Toccata Press is an independent publisher of books on music. Brian Newbould's examination of the Schubert symphonies, amazingly, was the first full-length analysis in any language. Harold Truscott's book on the orchestral music of Franz Schmidt was the first to be written in English on that composer, nor had anyone written a book on Enescu in English before Toccata Press brought out Noel Malcolm's pioneering study of this great musician. Owen Toller's monograph on Pfitzner's opera Palestrina was likewise the first full-scale examination in English of this neglected masterpiece. Vol. 1 of Andrew Ashbee's examination of the life and music of John Jenkins was not only the first book on Jenkins but also the first on the viol fantasy; Vol. 2 is in preparation. Another of our numerous titles on British music, Ronald Stevenson: The Man and his Music is probably the largest book on any living composer. And our efforts on behalf of Stevenson continue with Comrades in Art, featuring his correspondence with Percy Grainger and complete writings on Grainger and his music. The most recent titles are Tully Potter’s monumental biography of the violinist-composer Adolf Busch and Hans Keller’s collected writings on Stravinsky, coupled with Milein Cosman’s insightful drawings and prints of the composer.

St. James
Distance: 0.8 mi Tourist Information
12 Palace Street
London, United Kingdom SW1E 5JA

Box Office: 0844 264 2140

Opened in September 2012, St. James Theatre is a unique, award winning arts complex in central London. With a 312 seat main house presenting plays, musicals and revues, and a 120 capacity Studio in cabaret style offering over 250 shows a year, the St. James has established itself as the vibrant cultural hub of the rapidly developing Victoria area and a major player on the wider cultural scene. A theatre of choice for the best regional transfers, the perfect space for mid-scale musicals and musical revues, or the first stop for ambitious productions with designs on the West End, we stage shows that excite us, that marry great writing with visionary artists and that will appeal to theatregoers of all ages. A commercial enterprise without subsidy, we produce, co-produce and receive shows alike. In our first 18 months we have had two West End transfers (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tell Me on a Sunday; Urinetown: The Musical), two Olivier Award nominations (Cinderella, Tell Me on a Sunday), six What’s On Stage Award nominations and an Offie award nomination. Productions have been helmed by such renowned directors as, Sir Trevor Nunn, Max Stafford Clark, Sir Jonathan Miller, John Caird, Jamie Lloyd, David Grindley, Tamara Harvey and Blanche MacIntyre. The artistic programme is of course at the heart of establishing a new theatre, but so too is the audience experience and here the St. James excels. We try to deliver a balance of new and interesting work, plays and musicals that are both thought-provoking and entertaining. Enjoying the character and intimacy of a cabaret space, the versatility of a theatre, with the acoustics of a concert hall, the St. James Studio has also established itself. With a judiciously curated programme of cabaret, jazz, comedy, musicals, and theatre, often in the same week, the Studio is now widely, recognised as a champion of new musical writing, new cabaret, lunchtime theatre and political comedy. Finally, as a 21st century arts venue, the St. James incorporates TV production/broadcast facilities and multimedia capability. Coupled with the first class bar and catering facilities and in an atmosphere of designer comfort, the St. James is also the ideal environment for AGM’s, conferences, book and product launches, showcases, workshops and whole range of corporate and creative interaction. The St. James is run by a team dedicated to making the theatre one of the best experiences in London. Please visit us soon and enjoy all that the St. James has to offer.
