The founder of Guinevere, French born Genevieve Weaver, trained as a hat designer in Paris in the 1950's. Having moved to London and started a family, she became drawn to the world of antiques. She opened Guinevere Antiques in 1963, in what was then, the disreputable end of the famous Kings Road, Chelsea. Today, the store is very much at the 'right' end of the Kings Road, and is surrounded by art galleries, smart restaurants and interiors shops. Guinevere is now run by Genevieve's sons, Kevin and Marc Weaver. Her philosophy was one of mixing different styles and eras of furniture together - Ancient and Modern, East and West. Kevin and Marc have taken up these forward-thinking ideas by several notches. Their flair for combining styles of furniture and objects is still revolutionary in the antiques trade. 'What counts for us is that we have to like the piece and we have to be able to live with it', say the Weavers. It's all about the visual statement it's going to make in the room. The brothers travel around the world to source unique furniture, accessories and textiles for the home. Their journeys take them to India, China, America and continental Europe. What they bring back is a mix of gorgeous pieces that are a reflection of their taste.

Apters and Fredericks have been acquiring some of the finest pieces of Eighteenth century English antique furniture since 1946. From Queen Anne to Regency, through the designs of Thomas Chippendale, George Hepplewhite, Robert Adam and Thomas Sheraton, spanning the period when English furniture design and craftsmanship was at its height. We look for originality, colour, condition and provenance. Be it a walnut chest of drawers or bureau bookcase, a mahogany tripod or dining table, a charming satinwood or inlaid commode, or a finely coloured rosewood sofa table; each will have been carefully selected for aesthetic beauty and excellent patina. These days, to find a piece with all these qualities is rare, however, we know where to look and what to pay. We have skilled craftsmen at hand who can restore a piece to its original beauty when, on occasion, time and neglect has blemished it. Using the archival wealth of London's nearby museums and libraries, we search the past to uncover information about the pieces, whilst constantly monitoring the movements of important works in the markets. It is for these attributes that our specialist experience and scholarship is sought and appreciated by our clients. Amongst these are museums and private collectors who span the world from our neighbours in central London to friends as distant as the United States, India, China and Australia.

We have been stopping traffic on the Fulham Road in Chelsea for more than thirty years. Our windows are famous for their ever-changing displays of vintage, contemporary and bespoke furniture, lighting and objet d’arts. Nothing is predictable; Hollywood glamour collides with classic, mid-century Modernism, Art Deco and globally-sourced contemporary pieces. Our famed selection of vintage and contemporary lighting ranges from breath taking chandeliers to our fabulous Lotus Lights, that look great as individual pieces or, even more extraordinary, massed together as an art installation. Our enthusiasm for finding vintage mirrored furniture for the luxurious living-room and bedroom (especially dressing-tables) has now been extended to producing a unique line of custom-made pieces that can be adapted to our clients’ specification. Our new Jewellery Collection, developed in partnership with Henretta Wadall-Dudley, began with a passion for vintage pieces especially from the 1940’s. We are now producing our own designs in 18-carat gold with precious and semi-precious stones.
