We are very proud of the successes of Chestnut Grove, and its reputation in the local community.
Chestnut Grove is a high performing 11-19 mixed comprehensive in Balham, on the boundaries between Wandsworth and Lambeth. The school was judged Outstanding by Ofsted in March 2008, and, in July 2011, we took the opportunity to build on our independent spirit to ‘convert’ to academy status.
The school has an excellent track record of examination results both at GCSE and A level. In 2011, 98% of Year 11 students gained 5+ A*-C GCSE grades, with 65% achieving this with English and Maths. The school takes great pride in the exceptional progress made by students of all abilities as they go through the school; in 2011, this ranked Chestnut Grove 7th in the whole country.
Chestnut Grove’s strength lies in the way it successfully marries tradition with innovation. The emphasis on academic rigour in the curriculum not only trains students to do well in examinations, but to develop independent learning habits which will stand them in good stead at university and beyond.
The school’s reputation for the Arts is well known in the local community. The visual arts, music, dance and drama are all excellent, and provide young people with a myriad of opportunities, including a Foundation Art Degree in the Sixth Form.
The atmosphere of Chestnut Grove is very special and always commented on by visitors. It exudes energy, enthusiasm and vitality. Very often, the sound of music filters through its corridors, and always, the displays tell of our students’ achievements – academic, sporting or artistic.
What we do –
We are parents, each of who had a fulfilling vocation prior to starting our families. Now, we want to enthuse to the next generation & ignite their curiosities for these wide and fascinating subjects.
From pastry chef to fashion designer, yoga teacher to photographer, our aim is to engage kids in the true substance of these professions and give them a real insight into what is involved in each or these careers, usually, from the comfort of our homes.
Our aim is to continue to grow, recruiting more ‘formerly professional parents’, eager to join our group.
Whether the kids discover a new potential career they would like to pursue or an all consuming hobby, we are here to show them what its all about.

The aim of Playball is to introduce young children to constructive and enjoyable movement through a multi-activity program. We, at Playball, believe that creating a positive attitude towards sport and physical activity at an early age is the key to lifelong participation.
The program follows a holistic approach and offers learning opportunities and experiences relating to the cognitive, physical, social and emotional development of the child. Playball takes advantage of developmental windows of opportunity by providing a wide range of suitable movement skills and physical activities in a safe and secure environment - perfect for optimal learning!
All of our programs are independent of each other and are taught accordingly, offering your child a completely different sporting experience and learning environment.
There are six age appropriate programs, each program lasting one year. In each program the children's developmental, emotional and physical needs are met. Each program has as one of its primary objectives to teach sport and movement and teach it properly, taking into account each age group's cognitive and emotional capabilities. Each program has an impressive creative component that ensures that each lesson is both exciting and positive. The children are never bored and genuinely love the lessons.
The school occupies a site on Broomwood Road between Wandsworth and Clapham Commons. It is housed in a Grade II listed building which was built between 1904 and 1908 as the site for Clapham County Girls’ School. Thomas’s Clapham opened as a school for boys and girls in 1993 aged 4-13. There are currently 650 pupils on roll. Philip Ward took up post as Headmaster in September 2012. Before that he was the Headmaster of Feltonfleet, in Cobham, for twelve years.
The facilities at Clapham include a superb Drama studio and fully equipped theatre space, and separate Art, Pottery and Design Technology centre, which was newly built in 2001, and an impressive building housing the Reception classes, which was built ten years ago. The school is going through a process of substantial refurbishment, including a new C21Library, outdoor play areas and learning zones, and a mud kitchen, while the recent and on-going investment in digital learning is significant and exciting. Extensive new playing fields, provision for our Outdoor Education programme, a pavilion and changing rooms at Roehampton Vale, on the A3, came into use in September 2015. The Masterplan for a significant refurbishment of the existing teaching areas and the provision of a new space for STEAM teaching is well developed.
Battersea Piano Festival was founded in 2015 and is directed by Liz Giannopoulos (also the founder and director of Encore Music Tuition).
Now entering its third year, Battersea Piano Festival is open to all pianists, regardless of age and experience. The classes are carefully chosen to ensure a fair platform for all participants. Pianists have the opportunity to play a grand piano, in a semi-formal environment, and hear the performances of their peers. A panel of respected adjudicators selected winners in each class and provide constructive feedback and performance inspiration to the participants.

Catch Creative Academy is based in South London. We believe in encouraging and nurturing creativity, talent, passion and teamwork. Whether it is just for fun or a life's ambition, at Catch we allow students to express themselves in a safe environment with qualified and experienced teachers. Our aim is encourage individuality while learning to work with others.
Catch is not a large corporate machine. We are not a franchise. We have a small family of teachers who work together to create exciting classes and experiences. Many of our teachers work as professional performers and so have a wealth of knowledge to share with their students. We try to get to know the parents and provide a friendly service. The artistic director likes to know all Catch students by name even if they do not attend one of her classes. We hold small classes, most have a maximum of 12 spaces allowed. This approach provides the best possible learning environment for our students.
We currently run contemporary and commercial dance, drama and musical theatre classes. For more information about what we do please use the tabs above or email us using the contacts page. We have limited spaces in each class so if you would like to your child to attend one of our classes then please email us to book their place.
